I'm an Icelandic artist living in Amsterdam.
The main focus of my work is craft and its relationship to the craftsman. I’m interested in the disarticulation of my work, where it lands somewhere between the traditional and the conceptual. The main quality I seek in craft is the limited information all crafts share; their material, what kind of person the craftsman was and when and where it was made. Crafts reflects a certain social and historical circumstance without trying to tell anything beyond what will be told by the end result of a long labor. I see craft as a valuable tool and counterbalance to our digital era while I feel it’s important to keep in mind its history as a method of oppression, pacification and exploitation. I work in
mediums whose techniques are based on single small gestures, which without repetition are inconsequential. This certain mantric quality which reflects the most basic aspects of being. The way unlimited time and focus shapes a work that objectively has no purpose or value beyond material cost and the joy, and peace of its labor.
